Jules Moreau signed monochrome plate - Superb texture and finish - rare piece of French faience.
Malicorne is one of the oldest ceramics factories in France. Based in La Sarthe near Le Mans northern France. This factory started in the mid 1700's and produced both high status and everyday wares. Jules Moreau has produced some of the most prestigious and lovely pieces.
This wonderful plate dates from between the 1930's and the early 1980's, from the mark on the underside and is a beautiful homage to the fabulous work of a prestigious long lived enterprise.
The factory is still going today we have even paid them a visit. It is in a perfectly lovely part of the world with a Museum and visitors' centre - if ever you are in northern France it is a smashing day out!
There are no cracks or chips,it is a beautiful stylish and unusual plate. and it sits beautifully especially in the sunshine. There are three firing marks on the base where it was supported in the kiln. There is some crazing in the glaze but it is in otherwise perfect condition, There is bleeding between the black and cream glaze. There is an iridescence in the glaze - spectacular plate.
It weighs about 500 grams about 1.2 pounds and is 22 cms across about 8.5 inches
