VILLEDIEU FRENCH EARLY 1800, WATER JUG WITH COPPER HANDLE
SOLID HANDMADE COPPER SEAMED JOINTS CASTELLATED JOINTS WATER TIGHT
Made by hand with solid copper in the early part of the 1800's. It has joints and seamed base and has hand cut rivets. This pitcher has been cared for very well over it's really long life. It still holds liquid and has all the marks both from manufacturing and use over nearly 200 years.
There are some small drill holes near the rim, it make pouring water difficult if not impossible, they are there for holding the item up so you can see it, there is no spout, it is an excellent vase now.
You can see the hammer marks on the front of the body of the jug itself - it is testimony to the real skill of the maker. This was found in the Normandy area, the home of French copper, where many independent artisans once worked making everyday utensils for everyday people. Now with mass manufacturing these skills are almost lost. Indeed there are only four areas in France that still make copper pans and utensils.
This is a super piece that would grace any kitchen or hearth. The patina is exceptional, this is a ready made heirloom!
Now this jug/pticher has seen some life, the outside is pitted, there are numerous dents on the outside, the inside is very dark - we have not cleaned this area. There are many scratches and signs of use and wear. The decoration is totally hand done.

This is a really primitive early item that will look fantastic in a solitary position - the patina really draws the eye.

If you live in a country that has 110V electrical supply all you need to do to convert the lights is ask an electrician to replace the bulb holders when he is fitting the lights. All the wiring is suitable for world wide use. It's that simple!
