They weigh 494 grams 1lb 1.4 ozs and measure 20.5 cms
8 1/8 inches long.

Please note all measurements are approximate.

They have carbon steel blades that have some darker marks with Paris on the blades. The handles are Ebony and are in very good condition. The shoulders have a flower motif. Three are minor surface scratches and signs of wear. We estimate they were made in the middle to late 19th century, they are in extraordinary condition for their age.

The box has losses on the outside, the inner box is in good condition with some marks and discolouration, there are some marks in the holders.
It is hand written on the side "ébène" and in print "Au Printemps" or "Ebony" and Au Printemps an influential department store founded in 1865.

Au Printemps was a shop founded in 1865 by Jules Jaluzot is a former employee of the Bon Marché department store, on the left bank, the first store of Au Printemps was fitted out, at the corner of the streets of Le Havre and La Provence.

Following a fire, a new building was built by the architect Paul Sédille (1836-1900) in 1883. In 1910 was inaugurated a second store next to the edge of Boulevard Haussmann designed by the architect René Binet (1866-1911) in Art Nouveau style.
