Pair of French Cailar Bayard SOLID SILVER carving knife and Fork utensils and hallmarks on the handles. Super condition with Paris made carbon steel blade.
The handles are marked with the minerva mark signifying 950 silver.
Cailar Bayard - Cailar & Bayard, 37 rue Grange-aux-Belles, Paris, founded in 1848 by Noel Cailar and Pierre Bayard. The firm used the name METALLONIDE for its metal alloy. Bought by Bouillet & Bourdelle in early 1900s, Cailar & Bayard closed in 1934
They are Art Nouveau in style we estimate they are form the mid 19th century.
There are some dark spots on the carbon blade. The box is old, marked and worn with rust spots, this is not original to the utensils, the knife is slightly longer than the indentations and the fork is shorter.
This is real French Antique Set.
The set weighs 553 grams or 1 lb 3.5 ozs. The knife is 33cm long or 13 inches. The fork is 29 cm or 11 1/2 inches long.
