French Faience David Johnstone Full + Impressed Mark Bordeaux Plate China Porcelain Ceramic Transfer Printed Dish 1835-1844 Pink and White
French Faience Bordeaux Porcelain Ceramic Pink and White Transfer Printed Pattern Plate 1835-1844.
This is a beautiful example, although worn, chipped and stained, of a David Johnstone French faience plate from the Bordeaux factory. This factory closed in 1895.
There is conderable chipping on the edges, wear on the rim of this dish/plate and staining on both the face and reverse. The foot is worn. The glaze has failed in parts. It is clearly marked with both Johnstone impressed mark and the printed mark, this is a rare little plate from the Englishman who started Bordeaux Vieillard faience.
This is a real piece of ceramic history.
This is a rare plate having both marks on the back from the Bordeaux factory started by David Johnstone and then succeeded by Jules Vieillard and his son. The factory closed for good in 1895.
It measures 20.5 cm across 8 1/8th and weighs 10 ozs about 285 grams.
