Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WARTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK or WMF was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the JUGENDSTIL and Secessionist style.
The company's trademark was an Ostrich and the initials WMF
It was the secessionists aim, through its use of the methods of mass production, to make artistically designed, contemporary Jugenstil objects of daily use (such as candlesticks, ashtrays, lamps, beakers, vases, planters, jardinieres. tea and coffee sets) accessible to a broad selection of the public.
