Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, Secessionist Designed WMF Cake Basket and Bonbon Dish 1910-1925

They have the most beautiful patina and are in superb vintage condition.

They have pieced bases and have extremely intricate and delicate designs and they are robust too!
The design has been inspired by both floral German Jugenstil and by linear Art Deco.

Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WARTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK or WMF was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metal ware, mainly in the Jugendstil and Secessionist style.

The company's trademark was an Ostrich. This is fully marked on the reverse.

It was the secessionists aim, through its use of the methods of mass production, to make artistically designed, contemporary Jugenstil objects of daily use (such as candlesticks, ashtrays, lamps, beakers, vases, planters, jardinieres. tea and coffee sets) accessible to a broad selection of the public.

This was made in the first half of the 20th century as a decorative item and is lightly polished. There are some signs of use and wear and slight discolouration and darker spots.

These are important pieces of WMF manufacture in the early 20th century.
